Eco friendly alternative for Sanitary pads!

Period, this word might be uncomfortable to hear for some people but it is high to normalize it. A girl in one lifetime, generates 125 kgs of waste of sanitary napkins. And 121 million females in India use sanitary napkins.  Sanitary napkins take 500-800 years to decompose.  The solution for this is Menstrual cups. These are low cost and can be used upto 10-12 years. We spend about 12,000 on sanitary napkins. It's time to get changed. So, we women ♀ can shift from sanitary pads to menstrual cups! Thank you!

In a year around 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are dumped in a year. Making it the most littered item on the earth. A single cigarette butt takes over 10 years to decompose completely. How many emails are there in your inbox right now?

If I say each and every mail is polluting the environment. What would be your reaction? Do you know where your emails are even stored? In different corners of the world they are saved in servers. And to run these servers a lot of electricity is needed. And even today most of it is generated from fossil fuels. Which is leading to extreme air pollution. So directly or indirectly, emails generate co2 which is harming the environment. According to studies, one spam message produces 0.3 grams of co2. Normal email 4 grams and attachment emails generate around 50 grams of co2.Around 60 billion spam emails are sent in one day. Which means 18,00,000 kgs of co2.  What can we do?  Delete useless mails. Delete your spam. Unsubscribe unwanted emails. Turn off social media mail notifications Clean your trash bins. Clean your inbox whenever possible.

What made me start this Blog @Ecosmic?

Hello all,                 Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. I wanted to share what actually made me start this blog @ecosmic.  According to a report by NASA almost 12 cities in India are going to sink in the next 80 years. It's because of Global Warming. Due to more pollution the glaciers are rapidly melting and according to FORBES report almost 1 feet of the sea level has increased from the year 1901 to 2018. This did not happen in the last 3000 thousand years. And there are even some reports saying that we are the last generation to save India from sinking and planet earth from  destroying. The only thing we can do is to aware people and find solutions for this problem. It's late but let's start to save our India as well as our earth. ~Varshitha

You are actually drinking plastics!

Masala tea, green tea , lemon tea or be it anything,as soon as we wake up,we need our cup of tea. Normally, we make tea from loose leaves. But for convenience’s sake big companies started selling tea in teabags. We just have to dip it in hot water or milk and our tea is ready. The problem is in the teabags itself. At a glance  Many people use tea bags. Tea bags are often used in what seems like a paper bag but to keep the seal and shape of teabags intact in hot water some brands are mixing polypropylene in it, which is a type of plastic. When this teabag gets mixed with hot water, billions of microplastic get released in the tea. According to recent research  In Canada's McGill University one tea bag can release 11.6 billion microplastics.Microplastics are plastics which are smaller than 5mm are called microplastic. So basically, we are eating plastic! Solution:- we can use a tea infunser which starts from a price of 150/-

Kitchen Waste!

Image
In the last post we got to know about the importance of segregation of waste i.e Bio-degradable and Non-Biodegrable waste! In today's blog you are gonna find the way to decompose bio-degrable waste. What do you do with your kitchen waste? Our kitchen generates a lot of waste throughout the day.Whether it be vegetable peel, leftover food or rotten vegetables. All of this waste goes into the dustbin. But what if all this waste is used to make something productive? #Compost The same compost which we buy from the market with money to keep our plants nourished. What if we make the same compost at home? Almost 60% of waste in a day that we generate comes from our kitchen. The waste gets mixed and gets collected in landfills and methane gas gets released which is a greenhouse gas.and this directly or indirectly pollutes our soil ,air, water. So basically we’re polluting earth with something that is used to heal earth. How do we make compost? Things you would need to make compos...

Importance of segregation waste?

Image
Do you know the importance of segregation waste? I  think everyone knows. We all need to separate biodegradable materials and non-biodegradable materials. This might help a lot of waste to stop going to landfills. Biodegradable materials like vegetable peels, plant waste , fruits etc... can be turned in to compost rather than reaching them to landfills. According to a report, India will increase its waste from 62 million tons to about 165 tons by 2030. If this happens India will need a landfill as big as bangalore. So try to seperate Bio-degradable and Non-Biodegradable waste seperately! image credits:-Google.
